from one small seed...

From one small seed was launched by artist/facilitator Sophie Munns for the first International Fascination of Plants Day on May !8th, 2012. Plant Science Institutions, organisations and individuals around the globe joined together to highlight the increasing need for research and knowledge sharing in this realm.

Global pressures of every kind impact the world of plants and all interconnected systems. Political and Economic agendas must be met with strong imput from both the Science community and the public. This sets up a challenge in terms of what information reaches the public, through what channels and why.

Huge dilemmas, conflicting arguments and diverse stake-holders define and impact the broad realm of plant science, seed conservation and habitat preservation ... all of which have prompted Sophie Munns to undertake extensive research over the past three years in order to engage with these critical themes through her visual arts project Homage to the Seed.

In exploring Bio {cultural} diversity Sophie seeks to tap into and generate dialogue that will encourage broader awareness of complex arguments and the commitment to make timely cultural shifts in how we live. now and into the future.

Read about her Artist-in Residence experiences at Brisbane (QLD) Botanic Gardens in 2010, Cairns Botanic Gardens in Far North Qld, Australia this October... plus Kew Gardens Millennium Seedbank Project in the UK November, 2011 at her website and Homage to the Seed Blog.

A stimulating May, 2012 Residency at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience, at UQ, Brisbane, QLD coincided with the International Fascination of Plants Day and involved collaboration with Dr Joshua Mylne and staff over a period of three weeks. See archive of this tumblr site for posts dated May.
